What is this white paper about?
There are two types of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) standards: CWDM - coarse wavelength division multiplexing, and DWDM - dense wavelength division multiplexing. CWDM used to be more popular due to its low cost entry point for many customers, limited budget, and typical initial infrastructure requirements.
As the need for capacity grows and service rates increase, there is a demand to increase the capacity of existing CWDM networks.
The relatively large distance between wavelengths in CWDM enables to expand the network with additional wavelengths over the existing infrastructure, by utilizing DWDM technology and using the same equipment as part of the integrated solution.
Learn how PacketLight's WDM equipment enables customers to grow their networks by introducing DWDM over the CWDM network, without the need to replace infrastructure.
