Background

OOO Zummer, a leading provider of dark fiber and telecom solutions in Russia, was searching for a flexible WDM solution for their dark fiber links in the Siberian region.

The Challenge

Zummer was searching for a partner with a full WDM solution, to light up their dark fiber optical network.

Zummer required flexible WDM equipment that offers carrier grade features, meets international standards for backbone equipment, and is certified for resale in the Russian market.

The equipment had to be compact so it could be installed in booth-sized sites scattered all over the Siberian countryside, and it had to provide redundancy for both power (AC/DC) and the optical level.

The equipment also had to have simple and flexible growth ability, so Zummer could start with a few channels and grow as future demands will require, without a full hardware overhaul or disruption in traffic.

Finally, the equipment had to be easily and remotely managed, monitored and controlled.

"We can count on [PacketLight's] expertise and professionalism... [and] their commitment to us as a customer."
Michael Vladimirovich Trotskii, CEO, Zummer

The Solution

PacketLight’s PL-1000 10G DWDM Transponder fit Zummer’s requirements perfectly. This carrier grade solution provides throughput capacity from 2Mb to 10G in a compact, easy to configure 1U chassis.

The compact chassis easily fit in the small site booths located in the field in extreme weather conditions.

PacketLight’s web-based GUI provided management capabilities, which enabled Zummer to easily control, monitor and maintain the equipment remotely.

Most importantly, PacketLight’s solution enables Zummer to install the equipment in any link or connectivity required, and the network can easily be upgraded through pluggable XFPs to accommodate network growth.

Zummer was able to offer up to 10G connectivity services to private and commercial customers in and around the Ural and Siberia areas.

Success

Zummer successfully deployed a 10G optical network stretching over 2000 kilometers, enabling them to lease lines to commercial customers and further increase their service offering to new and existing customers.

The relationship between PacketLight and Zummer turned into a partnership where both parties strive for growth together. With PacketLight’s equipment, Zummer can expand its network and establish itself as a strong carrier in the Siberia region and beyond.

Michael Vladimirovich Trotskii, CEO of Zummer: “Working with PacketLight networks is truly a pleasure. We can count on not only their expertise and professionalism but also on their commitment to us as a customer. We know that we will receive personal treatment for any of our projects.
