Overview
A leading ASEAN service provider required a robust connection between five critical data centers across Singapore and Indonesia via a 1,200 km ultra long-haul optical network. The project demanded carrier-grade performance, high capacity, and future-ready scalability, all without the complexity, cost, and vendor lock-in of legacy Tier 1 solutions.
PacketLight delivered an open, scalable, and secure DWDM/OTN transport solution that provides up to 4.8T capacity per device, seamless multi-vendor integration, and ultra-long reach. A solution engineered for operational simplicity and rapid growth.
Business Challenge
The service provider faced four critical requirements:
- Ultra-Long Reach – Links spanning up to 220 km between sites, including integration with submarine cable segments, required advanced optical amplification.
- High-Capacity Transport – Needed to launch with multiple 100GbE services and easily scale without redesign.
- Always-On Redundancy – SLA-backed services demanded zero downtime and rapid failover between diverse fiber paths.
- Future-Proof Design – The backbone had to support future 400GbE services and network expansion without hardware replacement.
Network Scope
- Total Distance: 1,200 km
- Core Sites: 5 main data centers, plus multiple ROADM-based intermediate power balancing sites
- Span: Up to 220 km between nodes, including terrestrial and submarine segments
- Architecture: Linear network with multiple add/drop points and diverse fiber routes for redundancy
The Solution
PacketLight deployed a multi-layer, open optical transport system:
- PL-4000G 8T, 12×400G Transponder with QSFP-DD ZR+ coherent pluggable modules, supporting the transport of 28x100GbE over ultra-long haul 400G links.
- PL-1000RO ROADM 8-ports and Flex Grid support, for wavelength add/drop and power balancing across long spans.
- PL-300 Passive Device – 32-channel mux/demux for DWDM services.
- PL-1000GR Raman & PL-1000GIL EDFA – Facilitating long distances and attenuation compensation.
- PacketLight LightWatch™ NMS – End-to-end monitoring, provisioning, and management.
