Challenge: Infrastructure upgrade to create an optical multi-location-based network that supports 10G multi-protocol label switching (MLPS) architecture, with possibility of future upgrade.
Solution: PacketLight’s 10G DWDM Transponder provided ITandTEL with 10G throughput rate in a 1U chassis that is simple to configure and can be easily upgraded through pluggable XFPs, or by adding devices to the network.
Success: After a two-day installation in 10 locations, ITandTEL received a low latency, low power consumption network that is remotely monitored and controlled. The solution reduced ITandTEL’s operating costs and maximized ROI.
Background
ITandTEL is the Telecommunications Division of E‑Werk Wels AG and provides complete IT technology and services. Services include IT outsourcing, LAN and SAN design and implementation, security and telephone concepts, server hosting, web and data hosting and website design and implementation.
Outsourcing IT infrastructure to ITandTEL provides their customers with peace of mind and frees up resources to spend on their core competencies and business.
The Challenge
ITandTEL needed to create an optical multi-location-based network that supports 10G multi‑protocol label switching (MLPS) architecture. The infrastructure upgrade entailed inserting new network nodes in the existing network, and the network needed to be ready for future expansion from 2 up to 8 wavelengths. The solution had to be low cost in implementation, maintenance, and future upgrades, and with no interruption to existing services.
"We were especially impressed by the installation process and the simplicity
of the equipment."
Christoph Ehmayer, Technical Head of Corporate Networks, ITandTEL
The Solution
ITandTEL was looking for a flexible, reliable and cost-effective WDM solution that would support its 10G MPLS network. PacketLight Networks partnered with Laser 2000 to deliver a flexible, carrier grade DWDM solution. PacketLight’s PL-1000 10G DWDM Transponder provided ITandTEL with 10G throughput rate in a 1U chassis that is simple to configure and can be easily upgraded using pluggable XFPs. PacketLight’s solution was selected thanks to the compact size of the devices, intuitive operation and low cost.
The PL-1000-based solution provided ITandTEL with 2 channels of 10G services at each site, expandable up to 8 channels. Additional services are added by simply inserting XFPs, and locations can easily be introduced by adding 1U chassis in the desired locations.
Success
It took two days to install the equipment in 10 locations and ITandTEL received a low latency, low power consumption optical transport network that is remotely monitored and controlled. The solution reduced ITandTEL’s operating costs and maximized return on investment.
Christoph Ehmayer, Technical Head of Corporate Networks at ITandTEL: "Working with PacketLight Networks was really a pleasure. We were especially impressed by the installation process and the simplicity of the equipment. PacketLight Networks provided us with an expert available to us at the installation for help and briefed our technical department prior to installation. The Installation in all of our locations, more than 10 locations (Frankfurt, Munich, Salzburg, Wels, Linz, Vösendorf, Vienna, Bratislava, Sattledt, Amstetten, St. Pölten), entailed just 2 days time. Then our technical department was able to take over the entire network. With other providers, we always had long and complicated admissions to go through. In this respect, PacketLight has really saved us a lot of time and money."
