Based on the hyper growth that we are experiencing in telecommunications along with the other applications that are generating so much data, the transport requirements are greater and greater. Koby Reshef, CEO of PacketLight Networks provides great insight into the infrastructure requirements needed to handle the data to Don Witt of The Channel Daily News, a TR publication.
Current costs for 100G are too high. With the PacketLight Networks equipment, providers are now able get 200G over a single fiber increasing the capacity and reducing the cost by as much as 50%. Basically, 200G or 20 X 10G over a single wave length which is much cheaper than the previous 10 X 10G for 100G. This makes better use of the spectrum. As capacity grows, more wave lengths are required. If more data is compressed into a single wave length, infrastructure will not have to change.
