PacketLight solution uses an optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) and an optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) to detect changes in the fiber characteristics, such as breaks, tapping, and the characteristics of the active channels of the WDM network.


The device monitors the entire DWDM C-band spectrum and provides the optical spectrum, OSNR, and OTDR measurements of the fiber. The PL-1000D monitors up to eight fiber strands consecutively and operates standalone over dark fiber, lighted fiber, or a third party network without impacting network traffic.

Performance Monitoring

As the scale and capacity of the transported data grows, so the health of the DWDM fiber link and the traffic it carries must be monitored, including alerts. PacketLight’s embedded high-level performance monitoring (PM) solution provides full visibility on the fiber infrastructure and health of the transported data. This reduces the costs and time associated with deploying technicians to the field with dedicated test equipment.  


PacketLight solutions are a highly integrated cost-effective 1U. The devices form a multi-chassis which can expand at any for additional fiber monitoring based on the capacity of fibers per node. The solution works in combination with embedded Layer-1 encryption to protect data across the fiber, performing GCM-AES-256 encryption on Layer-1 without any degradation to the bandwidth of GbE/10/40/100Gb Ethernet and 1/2/4/8/16/32G Fibre channel services. The encryption solution complies with NIST FIPS 140-2 standards and Commercial National Security Algorithm (CNSA) Top Secret Suite B 2015 requirements for GbE/10/40/100Gb Ethernet. This enables carriers to offer secured infrastructure to customers that demand high level of confidentiality.
