Watch - 5 Steps to DWDM

Alien wavelengths enable to drive more capacity over any existing OTN or DWDM network infrastructure.

PacketLight’s vendor-agnostic devices enable to drive more capacity cost-effectively over any existing OTN or DWDM network infrastructure, with Layer-1 encryption.

The increasing use and development of technologies such as 5G and automation, and growing consumption of the Internet of Things (IoT), 4K and video content have all led to high demand for bandwidth. This poses a challenge for carriers, service providers, DCI and enterprises with scaling their existing WDM network infrastructure to meet the required transport capacity.

While it is possible to plan for a sudden surge in requirement for bandwidth, it also may occur without warning, as different segments in the network may expand unpredictably and with it the need to support growing capacity and client interface speeds. Alien wavelength solution answers this challenge. It enables to drives capacity over any existing OTN/DWDM network without replacing infrastructure, as it is vendor-agnostic to third party Ethernet and Fibre Channel switches. The solution enhances business opportunities by enabling the delivery of new network services that may not be supported by existing infrastructure, such as Layer-1 encryption, Fibre Channel, and video.

High Capacity Alien Wavelengths over DWDM

Alien wavelength solution enables to connect high capacity 100G/200G/400G wavelengths over existing third party vendor DWDM network, by aggregating a mix of Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and OTU2-4 services, into 100G/200G/400G DWDM wavelengths. This ads capacity to the existing third party WDM/OTN network without requiring any changes to the backbone infrastructure.

PacketLight’s product family of 10G (OTU2), 100G (OTU4), 200G (OTUC2), and 400G (OTUC4) muxponders and transponders provide an effective solution for high capacity services such as 10/40/100/400Gb Ethernet and 8/16/32G Fibre Channel. The products are remotely managed through an embedded web-based GUI, or through any third party SNMP system, making daily activities and service provisioning intuitive and time-saving. The solutions include network monitoring capabilities, enabling close supervision and fault isolation. Free web-based EMS and PacketLight LightWatchTM NMS provide full management of the network.

Scalable Solutions for OTN and DWDM Network

PacketLight alien wavelengths solutions are a highly integrated cost-effective 1U that are modular with real pay-as-you-grow architecture. The devices form a multi-chassis which can expand at any time to add more capacity, without link downtime. They are easy to install including set up, configuration, performance monitoring and fault management, all of which enable fast network deployment. The 1U footprint takes up minimal rack space and the devices have low power consumption, significantly reducing OPEX and CAPEX.

Network Encryption

The alien wavelength solution adds encryption to the network either by the addition of wavelengths with embedded Layer-1 optical encryption, or as an add—on to the existing backbone, without any changes to the network. This enables carriers to offer secured infrastructure to customers that demand high level of confidentiality.

PacketLight’s Layer-1 encryption solution performs GCM-AES-256 encryption on Layer-1 without any degradation to the full bandwidth of GbE/10/40/100/400Gb Ethernet and 1/2/4/8/16/32G Fibre channel services. The solution is NIST FIPS 140-2 and Common Criteria EAL2 certified, and complies with Commercial National Security Algorithm (CNSA) Top Secret Suite B 2015 requirements for GbE/10/40/100/400Gb Ethernet.

Cost-effective Solution for Improving DWDM Network

Alien wavelengths enable network providers to increase existing network capacity and offer additional private wavelength services such as encryption, without replacing existing network infrastructure. This eliminates the need for large investments in infrastructure, as the wavelength is added to the network as needed. In addition, the compact low power consumption 1U footprint, ease of installation, and fast deployment, all significantly reduce OPEX and CAPEX, and make for a compelling ROI.

Fast Deployment

Deployment of PacketLight’s solutions is simple, and does not require special expertise. The 1U chassis of the devices enables easy plug-and-play deployment and maintenance, meaning fast and cost-effective upgrade to higher capacity.
