PacketLight Launches 200G for DCI Metro OTN Solutions

New 200G Standard of Performance and Capacity for Data Center Interconnect and Metro Networking OTN Solutions

Tel Aviv, Israel – Nov 15, 2016 - PacketLight Networks today launched the PL-2000M, the new standard for optical transport solutions for high speed, high security data center interconnect (DCI) and metro networks. The new Muxponder/Transponder provides a 30% decrease of the solution cost and x2 increase of the spectral efficiency, thus saving wavelength resources and enabling higher fiber and metro network utilization. It is the most compact, highly integrated transport solution available, enabling enterprises to cost-effectively build-out or upgrade their existing networks. The product supports carrier-grade coherent 200G tunable uplink, capable of serving multiple applications and protocols such as data, storage, OTN and TDM.

DCI is currently one of the most pressing issues for enterprise networking. Trends like stronger compliance regulations, geographic disparity, big data, cloud and business continuity are demanding more traffic between data centers. Data centers have racked-up space consuming hardware and complex systems over the years, and the need for compact and high performance solutions is essential in keeping up with data demands.

Adding to the complexity, metro networks are still mostly 10G-based and often run out of capacity, which causes congestion. PL-2000M enables transport of 20x 10G over a single wavelength so organizations don’t need to replace the entire infrastructure in order to improve capacity and network efficiency. The 200G uplink is tunable and covers the entire ITU 50GHz and 100GHz grids, allowing adjustment by the operator to fit the required wavelength easily.

The PL-2000M offers the lowest power consumption and the smallest footprint of its kind, together with onboard physical layer encryption to drive significant reduction in capital and operating expenditure for business and carriers, while also preparing them for evolving security requirements.

“As the data footprint of every company increases exponentially, and the cloud ushers in an era of geographically disperse data centers, many enterprises struggle with effectively increasing and scaling their DCI capacity,” explained Koby Reshef, PacketLight’s CEO. “With PL-2000M, enterprises can now address their high speed DCI transport speeds quickly and inexpensively, eliminating costs such as rack space, cooling, and additional hardware for security, repeaters and other network elements. It will be the first time a 20x10G running over a coherent 200G wavelength is more cost effective than using the traditional 20x10G transponders.”

Protocols and Support

The PL-2000M supports a flexible mix of 10G/40G/100G client interfaces protocols and aggregates them into a 200G OTN uplink. The platform allows various operation modes of Muxponder and Transponder, mixing different protocols and rates over a single uplink. It also supports up to two integrated optical amplifiers and an optical switch for diverse fiber path protection.

Security

Unique to the industry, PacketLight’s new Muxponder/Transponder is equipped with onboard Layer-1 security. With a dramatic increase in attempted breaches at the physical layer, the PL-2000M addresses security over the network without compromising performance and the expenses of additional hardware. The product complies with FIPS 140-2 Level 2 requirements, provides GCM-AES-256 bit encryption and Key Exchange based on the Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) protocol.

Applications

The PL-2000M is ideal for Metro and DCI applications including:

  • High capacity enterprise and campus networks
  • High bandwidth connectivity for DCI and cloud computing
  • Last mile access/aggregation CPE for 10G/40G/100G managed services
  • Providing 200G links to bolster existing OTN/DWDM infrastructure
  • Secured and encrypted communication for all protocols
